Mary Nunn has always been attracted to flowers rocks water and birds Using watercolour she explores the natural environment with a love of colour visual texture and form While adept at landscapes and figure studies she is best known for her floral paintingsMary began her artistic career with needlework She worked on church vestments always according to a particular design However it wasnt long before shefound that work limiting and wanted to pursue her own designs so she enrolled in the Fine Arts program at Algonquin College Following that program in her early 30s and withyoung children to care for Mary took the commercial art course at the High School ofCommerce for two years Studying with young 16 and 17yearold students Mary wasenergized and inspired She has taught water media painting classes across Canada and the United States for various university art centres colleges and associationsMary is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and was elected to the Whos Who and the International Whos Who of Women in the early nineties In 1995 as a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of VE Day one of her paintings was selected to be given to the mayor of The Hague NetherlandsMary works with coloured charcoal and water with watercolour pencils and sticks and with watercolour paint She also likes to play with texture often using a sponge to pull the colour around the paper and she likes to use a lot of colour in her paintings There are no titles for Marys paintings until they are framed and since it can often be hard to name a painting she collects words to use when the time comes to assign a titleMarys work has been in exhibited and collected in Canada the United States Europe Australia and South America In Ottawa Ontario Marys work is available at Koyman Galleries
